LEAWOOD, Kan., December 12, 2024 – On October 31st, during the annual Private Security Recognition Dayheld at the National Police headquarters in Madrid, the Spanish National Police awarded Euronet and four of its employees with a prestigious Honorable Mention Award. This award, presented by the Police in recognition of outstanding contributions to crime prevention and investigation, acknowledges Euronet’s exceptional global and integrated Security Management processes and infrastructure. Remarkably, Euronet is the first non-security sector company to receive this recognition.
The Private Security Recognition Day, celebrated annually since 2013, honors companies and personnel in private security who collaborate closely with law enforcement to ensure public safety. The General Director of the Police personally signs the awards, which are presented to company security departments, directors, and personnel for their exemplary dedication, professionalism, and occasionally, heroic actions in crime prevention.
Euronet’s Security and IT teams were commended for their active role in ensuring physical and technical security, safeguarding information, and contributing to public safety. Among the honorees were three Euronet IT professionals in information security and one member of Euronet’s Spain-based security team, who were recognized for their effective collaboration with various units of the National Police.
Presiding over the event, the Commissioner General of Public Safety, Mr. Juan Carlos Castro, underscored the critical role of private security in public safety efforts, stating, “Private security is an extension of public security. The work and collaboration of its professionals is essential in the fight against crime and to guarantee citizen coexistence and the business continuity of its companies.”
Andres Martin, Euronet’s Security Director in Spain, expressed his pride in receiving the award, saying, “As an employee of Euronet, I am very proud to be part of the team of professionals working on the collective security of employees, the protection of assets and property, the care of information, and business continuity in critical situations.”
The National Police assessed several key contributions of Euronet’s security initiatives to conclude on the award, including:
- Comprehensive Internal Training Programs: Euronet has implemented extensive training initiatives to cultivate a culture of security across all employees. These include modules on information protection, responsible computer system use, threat identification for technological systems, legal frameworks for professional conduct, occupational risk prevention, and anti-money laundering practices. New employees receive tailored courses, and all employees are informed in real time of anti-social acts affecting ATMs across Europe.
- Swift and Effective Collaboration with Police and Judiciary: Euronet has responded to more than 7,000 police and judicial requests for imagery and reports since 2017. These collaborations have been instrumental in solving high-priority cases, including a homicide case in Benidorm in 2019.
- #SOSDesaparecidos Collaboration for Missing Persons Alerts: Since February 2020, through an agreement with the National Center for Missing Persons and the #SOSDesaparecidos association, Euronet has displayed 380 missing persons alerts on ATM screens across Spain, helping locate 65 missing individuals, including several high-risk cases.
- Support for Anti-Theft Testing Initiatives: Euronet has contributed 15 decommissioned ATMs to technical testing labs for anti-theft systems research, helping to strengthen security measures against explosives and physical tampering.
- Advocacy for Legislative Advancements in Private Security: Euronet has provided insights and data-driven suggestions that have supported legislative developments in the private security sector.
This year’s awards selected only 120 recipients out of hundreds of nominees, with Euronet standing out as the sole honoree outside the security sector. This recognition underscores Euronet’s dedication to the safety and security of both its operations and the broader public, reflecting a commitment to shared responsibility in crime prevention.
